The difference between Variable reluctance stepper motor and Switched reluctance motor is given below

1. Switched reluctance motor acts like brushless dc motor with rotor position feedback k but the variable reluctance stepper motor is usually fed with a square wave without rotor position feedback.

2. Switched reluctance motor is designed for efficient power conversion of high speed comparable with those of the PM brushless dc motor. The variable reluctance stepper motor is usually designed as a torque motor with a limited speed range.
